How to Unlock the Aviary in Jurassic World Evolution 2
To build the Aviary in Jurassic World Evolution 2, you’ll first need to research it. The Aviary becomes available quite early on in Chaos Theory and Challenge modes, and if you’re playing through the Campaign, you’ll build it in the Oregon mission.
The research node for the Aviary is found under Research -> Welfare -> Dinosaur Creation. After you research the general Hatchery, you’ll gain access to the second tier of options in this menu. The Aviary is the top node with the dome and three dinosaur eggs. Once you’ve researched this, the Aviary Dome and Aviary Hatchery will be available to build through the Enclosures menu.
Note: you cannot synthesize or release flying dinosaurs from regular Hatcheries.
How to Build an Aviary
Each Aviary Dome costs $100,000 to build and can be constructed in any pattern you wish; unlike other buildings in Jurassic World Evolution 2, the Aviary is modular in design. When you place a Dome, you’ll see arrows that indicate where other Domes, Hatcheries, and Viewing Galleries can be attached.
For maximum dinosaur comfort, you’ll need to build more than one Dome. Starting with at least three is recommended because it gives you enough room to add water, forest, feeders, and rocks.
If Aviaries are built too small, it can be almost impossible to place a Piscivore Feeder, making it seem like the game is glitched. The Feeder will always be red, and you’ll get the “obstructed” error message.
Piscivore Feeders must be built in shallow water, and their foundation radii can easily bump up against those of Domes, Hatcheries, and Viewing Galleries if they are built too close.
If you keep getting this message and can’t place a Feeder, add more water, expand the Aviary itself, or move the Feeder around in the water while constantly pressing the placement button. You may get lucky and find a sweet spot.
Next, add rocks, forest, or sand depending on the flying dinosaur(s) you want to add.
Make sure you assign a Ranger Team to each Aviary Hatchery to keep an eye on your dinosaurs and the enclosure. Piscivore Feeders are prone to E. Coli infections, and you’ll need to disinfect them quickly.
Just like fences for other types of enclosures, Aviary Domes can be damaged by dinosaurs and storms. Use Ranger teams to repair any broken areas, and consider researching Storm Defence upgrades in the Infrastructure research tab. Tranquilizing and transporting escaped flying dinosaurs is the same as it is for other dinos if any escape.
Flying Dinosaur Needs
Just like all dinosaurs in Jurassic World Evolution 2, each of the game’s flying dinos have specific needs that must be met to keep them comfortable. Only three have cohabitation likes and dislikes.
